Reality TV star Kylie Jenner isn’t dubbed the long reigning selfie-queen of Instagram for no reason. The 18-year old has 56 million adoring followers (and counting) watching her every move and wanting to recreate her signature matte-nude pout.
As simple as wearing a matte-nude lippie may seem, it can be tricky to pull off. Done wrong and risk looking like you came straight off the set of The Vampire Diaries (and not in a good way) or look like a pale mess with massively chapped lips.
Lucky for us, we've got pro tips from makeup artist and co-founder of FAC3INC Rick Yang on achieving the perfect matte nude pout:
Matte lipsticks can make your lips appear drier than they actually are. If you already have parched lips, exfoliate to rid dry flakes before opting for a lippie with a creamier texture.
#2 Choose your shade wisely
Avoid wearing a nude lipstick that’s the same shade as your foundation or your skin tone. You will often end up looking too pale. Always give lips a hint of colour. A great option would be to pick a nude hue with slight pink, salmon, or coral tone.
#3 Balance the rest of your makeup
If you are considering wearing an extreme nude lip without any colour tones, you’ll want to avoid looking washed out. Pair your pout with lush lashes (several coats of mascara should do the trick) and slight contouring. Adding glow on the cheeks will also balance the “dry” effect of the matte lips.
And because we know how hard it is to snag a Kylie Lip Kit – all of which sell out within the first 10 minutes – we’ve gathered some alternatives for you to try:
