How SQ Girls Wash Their Hair

After dousing their updos in firm-hold hairspray

Yes, the SQ girl updo looks perfectly coiffed but you won't believe the amount of firm-hold aerosol hairspray holding it all in place. As one of my ex-SQ girl pals aptly puts it "We used so much hairspray we were almost combustible."

Obviously, once all that hairspray has hardened the updo solid, the whole thing also becomes quite waterproof, which makes it a nightmare to wash out after each flight.

And so, here's the hair wash secret passed down for generations, from the senior stewardesses to the juniors: Massage a huge glob of rich conditioner onto your hairspray-hardened hair to break down the hairspray and soften strands before you even step into the shower.

After working the conditioner into the hair, which can take up to five minutes for long hair, then you may step into the shower to rinse it all off. Hair would have regained its natural softness now and you can proceed to shampoo and condition as usual.

And of course, with all that hairspray used, a wash with a scalp-clarifying or detoxifying shampoo is a must up to twice a week.
