Glitter Tears Is What You Should Be Crying Right Now

The latest makeup trend is all about shiny sad people

If you have tons of the shiny stuff left over from when the glitter roots trend took hold last Christmas, don’t cry. Actually - do, but cry yourself a river of glitter tears.

Because that’s what the latest makeup trend is all about: Pierrot-style trails of glitter below the eyes that make them look moist yet simultaneously masquerade-ready.

We first saw it late last year at Chanel’s pre-Fall show, but it’s only over the past month that the trend has really taken off. On the red carpet and at New York Fashion Week, it showed up on Elle Fanning at the Saint Laurent show and on Suki Waterhouse at the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies premiere, among others.

Waterhouse’s look was done by celebrated makeup artist and Burberry Beauty artistic consultant Wendy Rowe, who’s predicting that glitter tears will be a trend for Spring Summer.

And it looks like she’s spot on (as always) - #glittertears are everywhere on Instagram right now, whether we’re talking fine stardust or chunkier bits that are almost sequin-size.
