ELLE Review: Clarins Body Shaping Cream

This bestselling classic just keeps getting better

The hype

I’m sure Clarins’ Body Shaping Cream needs no introduction. This review is of is the fourth generation of the popular product that targets layers of excess and stubborn fat, especially around the mid-section and arms. A lightweight cream that uses poppy, caffeine, quince and hibiscus extracts to simultaneously firm skin and eliminate fat, it promises a trimmer you - no going under the knife needed.

The pros

The soufflé-like texture is absolutely beautiful. I’m not a fan of body creams because they’re often tacky and leave my skin feeling a little greasy. But this melts into the skin and is easily absorbed with a few easy massaging movements. The scent is also very pleasant and makes using the product a dream. Plus, it makes for a good body hydrator as it keeps skin moisturised, soft and smooth.

FYI, it’s great for women who’ve recently given birth as it can help firm slackened skin too.

The cons

While the massage steps take only a couple of minutes, that’s still precious time and effort (a bit of force is required to ensure the active ingredients get to where they’re needed) when you’re running late or are feeling lazy. So note that this takes some discipline if you want to follow the routine to a T.

That said, even if you don’t have the time or can’t be bothered to follow the massage techniques, you’ll still be able to see results. You’ll just have to be patient as it’ll take longer.

$102 from all Clarins counters. P/S: To boost the efficacy of this home-care product, complement it with the Clarins Skin Spa’s Stubborn Curves Solution Treatment ($185 for 60 minutes).
