Can Our Emotions Affect How Fast We Age?

You’ll be surprised at the answer

Here’s one reason to make yourself happy: Beauty experts at French brand Sisley have discovered a link between behavioural factors - such as your emotions and lifestyle choices - and ageing.

According to their research, how you feel and your lifestyle choices (including diet, sleep and overexposure to the sun) can affect the life cycle of skin cells, which can then lead to visible signs of premature ageing, like loss of radiance and firmness, and wrinkles.

“If you are happy in life, you tend to age less,” says Sisley’s regional managing director, Nicolas Chesnier.

While reformulation of Sisley products is uncommon, these findings on behavioural ageing prompted the brand to amp up its 16-year-old Sisleÿa Global Anti-Âge, known for being an all-rounded anti-ageing solution.

The result: Sisleÿa L’Intégral Anti-Âge, which works to rebalance the life cycle of skin cells affected by behavioural ageing, as well as visible signs linked to genetic and extrinsic ageing so users get younger-looking skin.

Three major new active ingredients - lindera and Persian acacia extracts, and yeast and soya protein complex - have been added to rebalance the life cycle of skin cells and protect the skin from behavioural ageing.

Though the formula has been tinkered with, the cream still has the same luxurious, silky texture that we love. It’s also absorbed more quickly than its predecessor.

Two lavender and marjoram-scented versions - regular and extra rich for dry skin - are available, to be used twice a day.

After one application, our skin was instantly brighter, and felt smoother and more toned after a month. “You can start using this in your early 20s. If you are 25, you won’t see the results now, but you will reap those benefits 20 years later,” says Chesnier.

$590. Sisleÿa L’Intégral Anti-Âge is available at all Sisley counters.
