5 Questions With... Lucia Pica

Chanel’s global creative designer for makeup and colour on the power of red – and her fave K-beauty trend

She’s obsessed with the colour red and is a firm believer of embracing your own beauty – yes, flaws and all. Lucia Pica, Chanel’s global creative designer for makeup and colour, tells us why her first line for Chanel – the Le Rouge Collection, which launches in Singapore today – is her greatest achievement. She also shares her personal beauty tips and must-haves ahead.

Why was the colour red chosen as the theme for the collection?

It is a personal favourite of mine, and I’m obsessed with it. So I thought it would be interesting to go in and explore the different themes of the colour. It’s about the study of the colour, how it represents power, femininity, vulnerability, sensuality and innocence. It is everything a woman might be and more.

What are your favourite products from the collection?

I love them all. But if I had to choose, it would be the Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Eros. It is a red-brown shade that not only defines the eyes but also gives it that extra something. It’s also a favourite of (Chanel’s ambassadress) Kristen Stewart.

What’s your makeup routine like?

I don’t usually have much time because I’m always busy, so I’ve narrowed my routine to one that takes just 7 minutes.

STEP 1: Mix a bit of Vita-Lumiere Foundation with moisturiser, and apply.

STEP 2: Conceal the areas that need concealing.

STEP 3:  Apply lipstick. To save time, dab a bit of it onto the cheeks as a quick blush alternative.

STEP 4: Apply mascara on lashes, define the eyes with the Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in 20 Espresso, and groom the brows.

STEP 5: Finish by shading the eyes with a taupe eyeshadow.

What are your makeup pouch must-haves?

Lipstick, eyeliner and concealer. These are the versatile things that you can do a little bit more with if you need to change things up a little. For example, if you’re going out after work, you can line the eyes more, smudge it a little and you’ve got a smoky eye look.

Is there an Asian beauty trend that you’ve seen and like?

I quite like the Korean beauty trend of applying lipstick just to the middle of the lips. It looks quite fresh and there’s something alluring about it.
