One of Singapore’s most well-regarded street photographers, Aik Beng Chia, also known as ABC, is famous for his snapshots of daily life shared on Instagram. And now these photos are the subject of an exhibition in which he presents his portrait of “Singkarpor”. The very title of this showcase reflects the essence of his photos, which are taken in public spaces and on the streets. They convey a sense of intimacy, documenting the average man and his everyday life in the raw.
Chia’s vivid and gritty images have earned him a strong following on Instagram (@aikbengchia) and have also caught the attention of UK newspaper, The Guardian, which let him take over the Guardian Travel Instagram account for a three-day special feature earlier this year. Aik Beng has also been invited to be a contributor to Everyday Asia, a showcase of images from around the region, on Instagram.
K+ Singkarpor is a specially curated collection that will include a feature on the passing of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. See it at K+ Curatorial Space at #03-14/15 Scotts Square from today till 4 October, noon to 8pm daily.
