Inspired by Australian design magazines such as Habitus, international reads like Vogue Living and local sites Lookbox Living and Home & Décor Singapore, Hong Henwood is a sought-after talent who strongly feels that what your living space “wears” is an extension of your fashion sense. We get her to address our interior decor conundrums.
We all want our living spaces to reflect our personalities, but how do we marry trends with style preferences?
Take a step back, declutter and think about the items you really can’t part with. I pair vintage books and accessories with more modern pieces like new furniture and cushions. You can find that harmony, too. Often, getting another set of eyes on a space can also help you create a look. Plus, don’t rush your purchases.
How does one dress a home in style when you’re clueless about what looks good?
Choose a colour scheme or pick a colour palette you absolutely love, and run with it. Accentuate the main items for the home and accessorise with soft furnishings that you can change with the seasons or trends.
What’s an easy way to make sure all your living spaces reflect the same energy?
Think about what you want to achieve in your home. Do you want a space that oozes comfort, or one that’s practical for you and your family? Don’t let a home be overrun by toys, or things that you no longer use. My general rule is, if you haven’t used that item for over a year, sell it or give it away. I collect pieces but don’t overdo it. For example, if you buy a new cushion, get rid of an older one.
