We know we’re not alone in feeling that sometimes, there’s just nothing exciting to do in Singapore.
Well, this weekend, it’s definitely not going to feel like that. With carnivals, markets and events to go to, this weekend might be the most fun-filled one yet. Continue reading below to find out where you need to go and what you need to do!
1. Eat, drink and listen to live music
If you love good food, good music and great shopping, head to the first ever Keong Saik Carnival.
For one day only, Chinatown’s Keong Saik Road will be transformed into a street bazaar. Shop a wide range of options, from streetwear to records while listening to musical acts by the likes of Beijing DJ Howie Lee and Singapore’s The Observatory. There will also be live illustrations by creative collective Tell Your Children and a carousel by famous carnival game master Uncle Ringo.
The highlight is, of course, the food (it is a street famous for its food after all). Chow down hot dogs by Three Buns Kitchen, slurp down oysters from Luxe and cool down with acai bowls from Selva.
The Keong Saik Carnival will be held at Keong Saik Road, on 28 May from 12 to 10.30pm.
2. Get your summer on
If no amount of retail therapy is ever enough, then prepare yourself to shop till you drop at the OYAY Summer Weekend Market at Wheelock Place.
Wheelock Place’s second floor will be decked out in summery décor, and retailers like lifestyle store Naiise and Dr Martens will be taking their wares out of their boutiques onto playful booths. The cherry on top of the cake? Look out for the many discounts and promotions from the different brands throughout the day.
Besides shopping, take part in fun DIY workshops with Fashion Makerspace, where you’ll learn how to make a pyramid pouch and zipper wristlet, and Knovus, where you’ll learn how to build your own open-terrarium. Local musicians Amanda Tee, Sam Driscoll and The Jukuleles will also be performing.
Food-wise, expect summery treats like refreshing Thai beverages by Bangkok Jam, yakitori and takoyaki by Sakae Sushi and handcrafted popsicles by Momolato, amongst many, many more.
The OYAY Summer Weekend Market will be held at L2 Wheelock Place, from 28 to 29 May, from 11am to 9pm.
3. Party like there’s no tomorrow
There’s truly no party like a Zouk party (just check out the crazy memories celebs have of the place) This Saturday, the club will be celebrating its 25th anniversary with an epic Silver Jubilee party!
Past and present resident DJs — including Jeremy Boon, Hong and Ming — will all come together to spin all night, along with special performances by iconic percussionist Maniam, Shigga Shay and Tokyo dance group CyberJapan Dancers.
Get a hit of nostalgia as you sip on old and new favourites like the Patron XO shots with chocolate cups at Velvet Underground, Jagerbombs and Limon Bombs at Phuture, and Sour Plum shots and Long Island Iced Tea at Zouk.
After a night of revelry, be sure to complete your Zouk experience with a sausage and mash cup outside, specially served in a silver cup and spoon just for the night.
One key reason to head down this Saturday — it’s going to be the last anniversary party at Zouk, as the club moves out of its warehouse on Jiak Kim Street to Clarke Quay.
The Zouk Silver Jubilee Party will be held at Zouk, 17 Jiak Kim Street, from 10pm till late. Tickets are at $28 (women) and $33 (men).
