We’re all such frequent shoppers these days that we’ve become slightly cynical about fresh concepts and new experiences. Free champagne? So yesterday (but yes please). Personal shoppers? Bo-ring.
In fact, it’s safe to say that the physical-store experience now rarely outweighs the convenience of buying online and getting your purchases delivered directly to your home.
That is, unless we’re talking stores like the refurbished Dior at ION Orchard. The flagship boutique is a powerful reminder of what shopping in a brick-and-mortar store can really be like, because it’s so stunningly beautiful and offers such a classically luxe experience married with mod touches.
Ahead, five reasons why this new store will make you fall in love with the physical shopping experience all over again.
1. It’s big and beautiful
At over 700 square metres spread over two floors, this is the largest Dior store in Singapore. It’s also Southeast Asia’s first duplex ladies’ boutique. The glass façade features the brand’s signature Cannage pattern and is lit for a magically glowing, kinetic effect.
2. It was designed by Peter Marino
You know, the architect who’s been called the king of luxury and has designed for bigwigs like Andy Warhol and the American philanthropist David Koch, along with a suite of other major luxe labels. His design emulates the look of Dior’s legendary boutique along Avenue Montaigne in Paris and boasts fittings like plush grey zibeline carpets, polished limestone floors and Louis XIV chairs.
3. There’s a super exclusive VIP salon…complete with a fireplace
Who cares if the last thing we need in this heat is a fireplace? You can have one here #becauseyoucan. This salon takes up the entire first floor and has a dedicated fitting room plus a private elevator, among other posh trimmings.
4. Everything has its own dedicated space
You want jewellery and timepieces? Trot over to the dedicated salon that has its own entrance. Accessories? Over there. There’s also a ready-to-wear suite with a seating area, a bags gallery with the full range of Dior bags and a footwear salon fit for Imelda Marcos.
5. There’s enough art to fill a small museum
From a 21st century Sistine Chapel-esque decorative ceiling installation called Butterflies by the American artist Rob Wynne, to a Yorame video wall in the RTW salon showcasing the season’s ready-to-wear, this store just happens to also be a veritable vault of traditional and contemporary art. Other unique pieces to look out for: The Twig wall lamps by Vaughan, the Walking Table by Roland Mellan, a Stingray Backbone table by leading London designers Based Upon and more.
The Dior ION Orchard flagship boutique is at #01-22 and #02-12/13 ION Orchard, 2 Orchard Turn.
