Beauty blogger and vlogger Jen Chae (also known online as From Head To Toe) is a fount of beauty tips and tricks. So no wonder the Korean-American was among those invited to take part in Skin Inc’s recent Beauty Hackathon in Singapore, where beauty experts and influencers came together to share ideas for the next game-changing skincare product.
We caught up with the makeup enthusiast at the event to steal some of her must-haves and tips.
What is one beauty trick you swear by?
A trick for creating the perfect winged eyeliner is to follow the angle of your lower lash line. So instead of using your eye white to find the angle, your liner should be an extension of your lower lash line – that’s the perfect angle. Plus, it can make your eyes appear bigger.
What makeup products are you loving right now?
Currently, I’m really obsessed with the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation. I always get compliments when I’m wearing it and people always ask what foundation I’m using. It doesn’t look cakey and gives a natural satiny finish. I also like the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. I have a lot of hyper pigmentation spots and that’s really good for covering, even when I don’t wear foundation.
For my lips, I love Benefit’s Chachatint Cheek & Lip Stain. It’s a coral hue and I use it to create that K-beauty gradient lip effect – it kinda looks like you’ve been sucking on a Popsicle and doesn’t have to be perfect. I’m also really in love with Clinique’sCheek Pop blusher. It’s solid but it looks like a cream blush when you apply it and it has a nice translucency. For brows, it’s Benefit’s Gimme Brow for me.
What’s your skincare routine like?
It’s really simple because I’ve been travelling so much these past two months. I have a prepared travel kit. I use a basic oil-free moisturiser – the Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator. My skin is a lot drier so I use the intense one. And I also use a Clinique eye cream and the Clarins UV Plus Anti-Pollution Day Screen Multi-Protection sunscreen.
What do you think the next beauty trend on YouTube is going to be?
I’m hopeful that it’s going to be a skincare trend. With K-beauty being so popular, it’s really going in that direction of skincare so you won’t have to wear as much makeup to begin with.
Your beauty mantra?
We should make our own decisions on what we think beauty is. It isn’t what the world tells you it is. You have the power to decide what’s beautiful inside your own head.
