Help! I’ve accidentally burst a pimple. What can I do to prevent scarring?
“If the area appears red and swollen, try applying a cold compress or over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream to calm your skin,” recommends Dr Eileen Tan, dermatologist at Dr Eileen Tan Skin, Laser & Hair Transplant Clinic. “If skin discoloration persists after a few days, see a dermatologist for skin lightening creams with kojic acid or arbutin, or consider acne and acne scar treatments such as yellow laser.”
What’s the best quick-fix for dull skin?
“Use a gentle lactic acid scrub to lift off dead skin cells, and slap on a hydrating mask for lustrous skin in a jiffy!” says Dr Tan.
What can I do to reduce puffy skin?
Stock up on creams formulated with hexapeptides such as argireline. According to Dr Tan, “Their anti-wrinkle properties will reduce puffy skin.”
How can I get rid of dark eye circles?
“The skin around the eyes is thin and contains less fatty tissue, causing any discoloration to be accentuated. Moreover, blood vessels run close to the skin surface, often producing a bluish-black tint,” explains Dr Tan. “Avoid rubbing your eyes frequently – this leads to hyper-pigmentation due to an increased deposit of melanin. Topical creams with ingredients such as hydroquinone and vitamin C may also help to brighten peepers beautifully.”
Will concealer exacerbate my breakout?
Certain formulas may. “Avoid infamous comedogenic ingredients such as acetylated lanolin or isopropyl myristate,” stresses Dr WS Heng from IDS Clinic. “And be sure to wash your concealer off thoroughly with a makeup remover at the end of the day.”
