LA-based lifestyle and fashion blogger Dani Song knows a thing or two about keeping skin in tip-top condition. In fact, she was among those invited to take part in Skin Inc’s recent Beauty Hackathon, where beauty experts and influencers came together to share ideas for the next game-changing skincare product.
We caught up with her at the hackathon to pinch some of her skincare tips.
How do you keep your skin in tip-top condition?
I love travelling and I travel a fair bit so I use the Skin Inc Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask a lot. I’ve been using it for a year and a half, and find that it works best when I’m on the plane. I remove my makeup, apply the mask and go to sleep. I remove it after the flight and my skin is really hydrated and glowing. I use it every night before bed, too.
What’s your skincare routine?
My skin always changes — it’s dry when I’m flying and oily when I land. I never know what I’ll be needing, so I bring around my Skin Inc serums and mix them according to my skin’s needs. I also use the Skin Inc Optimizer Voyage three to four times a week. It’s a wireless spa device that uses Chromotherapy (LED) and Low Frequency Current stimulation to stimulate skin cells and enhance the absorption of the active ingredients in your skincare. I was breaking out so much before I got it. I would use the blue light on my pimples and found that the blue light helped dry up the spot by the next day.
What are some of your beauty must-haves?
Since I was 13, I’ve loved putting makeup on. A winged eyeliner is my signature look, and the way I apply my eyeliner has never changed. I can use any liquid eyeliner, it’s more about technique for me. But one of my favourites is the Ciaté London Chisel Liner High Definition Tip Eyeliner. And I always get eyelash extensions — I love them. If you know how to take care of them, they can last for almost two months.
I also like to carry a Chapstick with me. For a makeup base, I use the Dolce & Gabanna Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation. Then there’s the La Mer Renewal Oil — you can use it on your face, hair and body. I have dry hair, so I apply that every morning and night, and it smoothes my hair out. It’s expensive though, so I try not to use it too much.
Your tips for wellness?
Being positive and appreciating the little things in life helps keep my energy levels up. Also, drink a lot of water - it really changes your skin. And working out, definitely. You get more positive and it shows. I’m not a runner so I really like hiking. It’s huge in LA, everyone wants to hike everywhere. I also do squats. I have a trainer I see three times a week. My workouts are for an hour and every break, he’ll make me squat. It’s really painful, but once you get used to it, it’s the perfect exercise to help you get Beyoncé’s booty.
What’s your beauty must-do?
Always remove your makeup no matter what! It ages you. My grandma, mum and sis all advocate this. I used to come home tired and they would remove my makeup for me. You’ll see the difference, even if you don’t use creams and serums after.
